2common slab types

Slab on Grade

Just like the name suggests, a slab-on-grade foundation is one continuous piece of concrete that is poured on top of the ground. The slab is poured thicker on the edge to create an integrated footing. Rebar is tied into the foundations along with a steel mesh that helps prevent the concrete from cracking. A layer of thick plastic is placed between the ground and cement to create a moisture barrier. Slab-on-grade foundations are monolithic which means they are poured all at once.

Post Tension

A post-tension slab is a foundation that has steel cable running through it under high tension. The cable increases a slab’s strength considerably and helps reduce the risk of cracking. Many larger buildings are built on post-tension slabs. There are multiple reasons for using post-tension slabs. If you have an area with unfavorable soil conditions or have poor load bearing conditions, post-tensions slabs may be the most economical solution.
